About Sir Gavin Williamson CBE MP:
The Rt Hon Sir Gavin Williamson CBE MP has been a Conservative Member of Parliament since 2010, and was Secretary of State for Defence from November 2017 to May 2019. He also served as Secretary of State for Education, Chief Whip and Minister of State (Minister without Portfolio) at the Cabinet Office in the past.

As Secretary of State for Defence, Sir Gavin pioneered the strategy of tilting British naval resources more towards the Indo-Pacific, directed the first British freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea in more than a generation, increased the U.K.’s commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and staved off cuts to British armed forces. He was an outspoken critic of both Russian aggression and moves by the People’s Republic of China to increase their economic, military and political reach.

In 2016, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for political and public service. In 2022 he was knighted for political service. He was also made a privy councillor.
