For the next installment of our monthly TFCCxATJ Talk Series on Wednesday, August 13, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club has invited writer and translator Lin King to talk about Taiwanese literature on the world stage. Her translation of Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-zi won the 2024 U.S. National Book Award for Translated Literature and the 2025 Baifang Schell Book Prize from Asia Society in New York.

Taiwan Travelogue has made headlines both in Taiwan and abroad. It was praised by President Lai Ching-te during his 2025 New Year’s address as an example of Taiwan’s growing international presence. What do these accolades tell us about the global reception of Taiwanese literature? How is Taiwan represented abroad through fiction? What role can cultural exports play in shaping perceptions of Taiwan?

Join us as Lin King discusses these questions and more in conversation with TFCC board member Brian Hioe.
