As pressure from China continues to rise, President Lai Ching-te has unveiled new national security initiatives, including a commitment to raise defense spending to 3% of GDP and reinstating military tribunals. These measures are part of a broader response to increasing military harassment, political interference, and infiltration efforts from China, and echo international calls—particularly from the U.S.—for partners and allies to bolster their own defense capabilities.

In this panel, we will examine how Taiwan’s government intends to strengthen national security, the key challenges it faces, and the broader implications for regional stability.

Our panel includes:

  • Lin Chong-pin, Former Deputy Minister of National Defense
  • Puma Shen, Co-Chair, Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, Legislative Yuan
  • Su Yen-tu, Research Professor, Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Academia Sinica

We look forward to seeing many of our members there for what promises to be an important and timely conversation.
