On September 2, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club will organize a panel discussion about Taiwan’s international messaging and communications.
The panel discussion examines Taiwan’s strategic communications, how Taiwan has shifted its diplomatic communication and public diplomacy, the role played by business, culture and NGOs in representing Taiwan abroad, and what can be done to improve the operating environment for international journalists.
On the day, we will be joined by three distinguished panelists. They are, by alphabetical order:
- Andrew Yeh, Senior Director, China Strategic Risks Institute
Andrew Yeh is Senior Director at the China Strategic Risks Institute (CSRI), a global think-tank headquartered in London, England. He previously served as a Visiting Research Fellow at Taiwan’s Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) and as a Visiting Scholar at the Research Institute for Democracy, Science and Emerging Technology (DSET). His research has focused on a range of issues at the intersection of geopolitics, technology and security, including China’s grey-zone warfare, Cross-Strait relations, Europe-Taiwan relations, green technology supply chains and economic security.
- Kolas Yotaka, Security Consultant and former Presidential Office Spokesperson
Kolas, a member of the Pangcah indigenous people, served as Presidential Office Spokesperson under President Tsai Ing-wen. She was the first indigenous Taiwanese to hold that position and the first person in the country’s history to hold public office under an indigenous name. Trained as a sociologist, she spent fifteen years as a television and print journalist before entering politics. She served as a legislator during the first DPP majority in Taiwan’s history, then as Cabinet Spokesperson and Presidential Office Spokesperson. She now researches, writes, and speaks on information warfare and democratic resilience.
