On September 16, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club will organize a panel discussion to look at the country’s efforts to create a defense industrial supply chain. 

The event is open to TFCC members only and will require prior registration.

We will be joined by Rupert Hammond-Chambers, President of the US-Taiwan Business Council and Senior Advisor at Bower Group Asia, and Cathy Fang of Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET). The discussion will be moderated by TFCC chair and Nikkei Asia correspondent Thompson Chau.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Rupert Hammond-Chambers was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland before emigrating to the United States in 1987. He has been the President of the US-Taiwan Business Council since 2000. Today, Hammond-Chambers is also a Senior Advisor at Bower Group Asia (BGA) – a strategic consultancy – overseeing the Taiwan practice. He is also responsible for BGA’s defense and security practice. He sits on the Board of The Project 2049 Institute and is a Trustee of Friends of Fettes College and a member of the National Committee on United States-China Relations. He’s based in D.C.

Cathy Fang is a Policy Analyst at the National Security and Economic Security Research Program at DSET, a Taiwanese government-funded think-tank. Her research focuses on the convergence of technology and geopolitical dynamics, including critical technological domains – such the semiconductor industry – and emerging technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles, satellite systems, and subsea telecommunications infrastructure. Fang is also an editor and podcast host at US-Taiwan Watch. She was previously an analyst at the Project 2049 Institute and a legislative assistant in Taiwan. She holds an M.A. in Asian Studies and International Security from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
