
The Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club will be hosting the next installment of our monthly TFCCxATJ Talk Series on Wednesday, October 15, featuring Andrew Yeh and Athena Tong from the China Strategic Risk Institute. The event, entitled “Resilience from Taipei to London to Tokyo”, will explore economic security, China’s “gray zone” warfare, and how Europe, Japan and Taiwan might be able to work together on issues such as undersea cables.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Andrew Yeh is the Executive Director of the China Strategic Risks Institute (CSR), a global think tank analysing the strategic risks and opportunities posed by the rise of China. His research has focussed on a range of issues at the intersection of geopolitics, technology and security, with particular focus on China’s grey-zone warfare, Cross-Strait relations, undersea cable security, Europe-Taiwan ties and green technology supply chains. He is a former Visiting Scholar at Taiwan’s Research Center for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET), and graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MA (Cantab) in Social and Political Sciences. He also served as Secretariat Manager to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) between 2020 – 2022 and co-founded the Labour Friends of Taiwan grouping in the UK Parliament.
Athena Tong is a Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo, a Research Associate and Program Lead at the China Strategic Risks Institute, and a Non-resident Vasey Fellow at Pacific Forum. Her research focuses on infrastructure resilience, PRC political warfare, and economic security in East Asia, with analysis quoted and published by platforms like Nikkei Asia, The Wire China, The Diplomat, Oxford Analytica, the Jamestown Foundation, and the Council on Geostrategy. Since the 2014 Umbrella Movement, she has been deeply involved in international advocacy and Hong Kong’s political landscape, previously serving as Director of PR and Communications for the youth-led pro-democracy party Demosistō, and as campaign lead for local human rights organizations. Now in self-exile in Tokyo, Athena serves on the boards of organizations such as NetMission.Asia.
The China Strategic Risks Institute (CSRI) is an independent, non-partisan think tank analysing the risks and opportunities posed by the rise of China across security, technology and economics.
