The Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club will host Amb. David Tawei Lee (李大維) for a members-only book talk on Friday, January 2. Prior registration is required.

David Lee is one of Taiwan’s most experienced diplomats, with a career spanning more than four decades. He has served as Foreign Minister, Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Secretary-General to the President, and as Taiwan’s representative to the United States, the European Union, Canada, and Australia. Throughout his career, Lee has played a key role in navigating Taiwan’s complex international environment under difficult and often constrained circumstances.

The discussion will center on Lee’s recently published memoir, Composure Amidst Turmoil (《和光同塵:一位外交官的省思》), a reflective account of Taiwan’s diplomatic history and the mindset required of its diplomats. Drawing on half a century of experience, the book offers insights into Taiwan-U.S. relations, crisis management, democratic accountability in foreign policy, and the balance between principle and pragmatism in diplomacy.
