The TFCC is pleased to be hosting Kuomintang bigwig and TV personality Jaw Shau-Kong for a fireside chat on Wednesday, May 13. Jaw will likely weigh in on a variety of key news developments ranging from the Taiwan president’s second anniversary in office to U.S. President Donald Trump’s imminent visit to China.

In this session, Jaw Shau-Kong will share his thoughts on President Lai Ching-te’s administration half-way through his four-year term, the debate over Taiwan’s special defense budget and geopolitics ahead of the summit between Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping. Jaw will also talk about his new book Seventy Youth: Jaw Shau-Kong’s Scenes of the Era, which looks at his decades-long public and media life. 

One of the most well-known figures in modern Taiwan politics and the Chinese-speaking world, Jaw served as a former cabinet minister, legislator, and TV show host, and ran as the KMT’s vice presidential candidate in the 2024 general election. He was chairman and CEO of the Broadcasting Corporation of China, and co-founded the New Party in the 1990s.

The event will be moderated by TFCC chair and Nikkei Asia correspondent Thompson Chau.
