Taiwan’s grand justices are preparing to rule on the constitutionality of the death penalty at a time the judiciary is facing attacks from opposition politicians. This highly consequential decision, delayed in part due to the turmoil at the legislature, is anticipated to be announced before September 23rd.

Join us on August 14th for a panel discussion hosted by the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club (TFCC). We’ll delve into the arguments presented to the court and discuss the potential implications for Taiwan’s reputation as a leading human rights defender on the world stage. Our conversation will also cover the psychological impact of the death penalty on both inmates and executioners.
