On December 4-5, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club (TFCC) organized a two-day excursion to Tainan, commemorating the city’s 400th anniversary. The trip combined cultural exploration, historical insights, and a closer look at Tainan’s role in Taiwan’s cutting-edge technology sector.

Day 1: Cultural and Official Engagement
The trip began with a chartered bus ride from Taipei to Tainan, culminating in a reception featuring Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che at the Crowne Plaza Tainan. The reception brought together TFCC members, local dignitaries, academics, and city officials to celebrate Tainan’s historic milestone. Mayor Huang highlighted the city’s dual identity as a cradle of Taiwan’s cultural heritage and a hub for innovation. (Read local coverage of the reception here)

Day 2: History and Technology
The second day offered a guided tour of Fort Zeelandia in Anping, providing participants with a vivid account of Taiwan’s colonial history. Following the tour, the group visited the Tainan Science Park, where they learned about the city’s contributions to Taiwan’s high-tech industries.

A key highlight of the trip was a visit to drone manufacturer Hsuan Yuan Technology, where participants attended a presentation in Chinese about the company’s advancements and witnessed a live drone flight demonstration at a nearby airfield.
